  • OUR PLAN:

OPEN LINES OF COMMUNICATION and TRANSPARENCY: Beyond school board meetings and quarterly newsletters, Marcelino would increase social media presence for anyone to access information, in English and Spanish.  Marcelino, as parent of a bilingual preschooler, understands parents should never feel intimidated due to a language barrier, nor should parents and teachers ever feel the school board and administrators are out-of-touch.

IMPLEMENT STRATEGIES THAT WORK: Marcelino would work with teachers and school administrators to identify the core teaching issues and challenges faced by students.  Marcelino wants to move away from the excuses that hinder school success, and implement approaches that help parents and teachers build better students and a strong foundation for college readiness.  He believes it is critical that the District seek how to replicate A+ and B school strategies and best practices to advance school performance.  Roosevelt School District needs to strive towards excellence and should no longer be complacent with an overall grade of a D (2011) or C (2012).  Source:  Arizona Department of Education

ENGAGED COMMUNITIES: Marcelino believes it takes a village to raise a child.  He would like to architect an initiative where neighbors contribute to and invest in how students in their community acquire knowledge and teachings beyond the classroom; everything from being an upstanding citizen to extra-curricular programs that include science, technology, arts and humanities – all which support the daily foundation built by teachers.  If you do not have a child in the district, your neighbor does.
